53ویں نیشنل ایتھلیٹکس چیمپئن شپ 2025: کامیابی کے باوجود انتظامی خلا اور سوالات

اس حقیقت سے انکار ممکن نہیں کہ 53ویں نیشنل ایتھلیٹکس چیمپئن شپ تمام تر دباؤ، تنازعات اور مشکلات کے باوجود بالآخر منعقد ہو گئی۔ اس بات کا کریڈٹ یقیناً پاکستان ایتھلیٹکس فیڈریشن کو جاتا ہے کہ اس نے شدید حالات کے باوجود ایونٹ کو ممکن بنایا۔ تاہم، اس کامیابی کے پس منظر میں کئی ایسے سوالات اور خدشات موجود ہیں جنہیں نظر انداز نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔

اسلام آباد کے جناح اسٹیڈیم، پاکستان اسپورٹس کمپلیکس میں ہونے والی اس چیمپئن شپ کے دوران یہ بات واضح طور پر محسوس کی گئی کہ اگرچہ مقابلے منعقد ہو گئے، لیکن انتظامی اور تنظیمی ڈھانچے میں کمزوریاں نمایاں رہیں۔ ایسا محسوس ہوا کہ فیڈریشن خود بھی اس حقیقت سے آگاہ ہے کہ نظام مکمل طور پر مستحکم نہیں۔ اگر حالات بہتر ہوتے تو نیشنل گیمز کے دوران ایتھلیٹکس کو فیڈریشن سے الگ کر کے کسی اور نظام کے تحت نہ چلایا جاتا، جو بذاتِ خود ادارہ جاتی عدم اعتماد کی عکاسی کرتا ہے۔

ایک نہایت اہم اور تشویشناک پہلو یہ تھا کہ فیڈریشن کے سیکریٹری، جو کسی بھی قومی ایونٹ میں کلیدی کردار کے حامل ہوتے ہیں، اس پورے ایونٹ میں موجود نہیں تھے۔ باوثوق ذرائع کے مطابق وہ بیرونِ ملک تھے۔ یہ سوال اپنی جگہ موجود ہے کہ کیا ایک قومی چیمپئن شپ کے دوران سیکریٹری کی موجودگی ضروری نہیں؟ کیا انہیں اس ایونٹ کے انعقاد کی بروقت اطلاع نہیں تھی؟ یا پھر یہ ایونٹ کسی عجلت میں ترتیب دیا گیا؟ یہ تمام سوالات انتظامی شفافیت پر سوالیہ نشان کھڑے کرتے ہیں۔

اس کے برعکس، سابق صدر جنرل (ر) اکرم ساہی شدید سرد موسم کے باوجود مسلسل میدان میں موجود رہے، جو ان کی وابستگی اور سنجیدگی کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔ اسی طرح موجودہ صدر بریگیڈیئر وجاہت بھی متحرک نظر آئے۔ تاہم، فیڈریشن کے کئی اہم اور سینئر عہدیداران کی عدم موجودگی واضح طور پر محسوس کی گئی، جس نے ایونٹ کی اجتماعی روح اور یکجہتی کو متاثر کیا۔ اگر یہ تمام شخصیات موجود ہوتیں تو چیمپئن شپ کا ماحول زیادہ مضبوط، متحد اور حوصلہ افزا ہوتا۔

انتظامی سطح پر ایک اور تشویشناک پہلو میدان میں نظم و ضبط کی کمی تھی۔ کھیل کے میدان میں غیر متعلقہ افراد کی آزادانہ آمد و رفت، تکنیکی کنٹرول کی کمی، اور متعلقہ ذمہ داران کی عدم موجودگی نے انتظامی کمزوری کو نمایاں کیا۔ یہ وہ بنیادی اصول ہیں جن پر کسی بھی قومی سطح کے مقابلے کی ساکھ قائم ہوتی ہے۔

مزید برآں، نیشنل گیمز کے بعد بعض حلقوں کی جانب سے متوازی تنظیمی ڈھانچے بنانے کی کوششیں، خصوصاً صوبائی سطح پر، اس امر کی نشاندہی کرتی ہیں کہ ایتھلیٹکس کے نظام میں اندرونی کشمکش شدت اختیار کر چکی ہے۔ ماضی میں باکسنگ جیسے کھیل کو جو نقصان پہنچا، ویسا ہی خطرہ اب ایتھلیٹکس کو بھی درپیش نظر آ رہا ہے۔

اس تمام تر صورتحال کے باوجود، یہ حقیقت اپنی جگہ مسلم ہے کہ اس چیمپئن شپ نے کچھ مثبت پہلو بھی اجاگر کیے۔ کئی کھلاڑیوں نے اس موقع کو غنیمت جانا، کیونکہ پاکستان میں اعلیٰ سطح کے مقابلے کم ہی منعقد ہوتے ہیں۔ خاص طور پر، مردوں کے پول والٹ میں پاک فوج کے کھلاڑی آصف نے نیا قومی ریکارڈ قائم کیا، جبکہ خواتین ڈسکس تھرو میں نومن ستار نے شاندار کارکردگی کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے نیا قومی ریکارڈ بنایا۔ یہ کارنامے اس بات کا ثبوت ہیں کہ اگر درست ماحول اور مواقع فراہم کیے جائیں تو پاکستانی ایتھلیٹس عالمی معیار تک پہنچنے کی مکمل صلاحیت رکھتے ہیں۔

اب سب سے اہم سوال یہ ہے کہ کیا پاکستان ایتھلیٹکس فیڈریشن ان خامیوں کا سنجیدگی سے جائزہ لے گی؟ کیا اندرونی اختلافات کو ختم کر کے ایک متحد اور مضبوط ڈھانچہ قائم کیا جائے گا؟ کیا ماضی کی غلطیوں سے سیکھ کر شفافیت، میرٹ اور پیشہ ورانہ طرزِ عمل کو ترجیح دی جائے گی؟

نئے سال کے آغاز پر یہی امید کی جا سکتی ہے کہ فیڈریشن ان تمام کمزوریوں کو تسلیم کرتے ہوئے اصلاحات کی جانب عملی قدم اٹھائے گی۔ کیونکہ پاکستان میں ٹیلنٹ کی کمی نہیں، کمی ہے تو صرف بہتر نظم، اعتماد اور دیانت دار قیادت کی۔

53rd National Athletics Championship 2025: Success Amid Structural Gaps and Governance Questions

There is no denying that the 53rd National Athletics Championship was ultimately held despite immense pressure, controversy, and administrative uncertainty. Credit must be given to the Pakistan Athletics Federation (PAF) for ensuring that the event took place when many believed it would be postponed or cancelled altogether. However, while the championship’s completion is commendable, the circumstances surrounding it raise serious questions that cannot be ignored.

During my visit to the Pakistan Sports Complex, Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, it became evident that although the event was conducted, the overall governance structure remains fragile. The federation itself appears aware that conditions are far from ideal. Had the internal environment been stable, the athletics competition would not have been removed from the National Games framework and placed under alternate arrangements. This decision alone reflects deep-rooted mistrust and fragmentation within the system.

One of the most concerning aspects was the visible absence of the Federation’s Secretary, who, according to reliable sources, was abroad during the championship. This naturally raises critical questions: Was the Secretary unaware of the event’s significance? Was the championship announced in haste? Or was his absence a reflection of deeper internal divisions? In any national championship, particularly one of such importance, the presence of the Secretary is not symbolic—it is essential for governance, coordination, and accountability.

At the same time, it must be acknowledged that former Federation President General Akram Sahi remained present throughout the event despite harsh weather conditions, demonstrating personal commitment and continuity. Likewise, the current President, Brigadier Wajahat, was visibly active during the championship. However, the absence of several senior office bearers and recently removed officials was deeply felt. Their non-participation deprived the event of collective leadership and reinforced perceptions of internal rifts. Had all stakeholders been present, the championship could have reflected greater unity, confidence, and institutional harmony.

Equally troubling was the broader administrative environment. The lack of field discipline, uncontrolled access to the field of play, and absence of strict technical oversight highlighted serious governance gaps. Such lapses are unacceptable at a national-level competition and point toward a need for structural reform rather than temporary arrangements.

Another major concern lies in the growing influence of parallel power structures. After the National Games, moves by certain Olympic-affiliated bodies to establish parallel athletics setups—particularly through provincial associations—have further complicated matters. This trend threatens the autonomy of the federation and risks creating long-term instability within the sport. History has already shown, particularly in boxing, how damaging such interference can be.

Despite these challenges, the championship did produce positive sporting outcomes. Athletes welcomed the opportunity to compete, especially given the scarcity of national-level competitions in recent years. Notably, a new national record was set in the men’s pole vault by Army athlete Asif, while another national record was achieved in the women’s discus throw by Army athlete Nomin Sattar. These performances demonstrate that Pakistan’s athletes continue to progress despite systemic weaknesses.

The larger question now is whether the federation will learn from these shortcomings. Will it take concrete steps to restore unity, transparency, and institutional discipline? Will sidelined stakeholders be reintegrated? And will Pakistan Athletics move towards a governance model that prioritizes merit, accountability, and athlete welfare over internal politics?

As the new year begins, there is hope that the federation will address these gaps with sincerity. Pakistan athletics does not lack talent; it lacks cohesion. Only through unity, transparency, and responsible leadership can the sport reclaim its rightful place on the national and international stage.
