Hatred is born from distance, and love grows from connection. We can reduce hatred — if we choose to meet, understand, and walk together.
This belief guides my message to the youth of our neighboring countries.
Our region is home to some of the most talented, courageous, and peace-loving young people in the world. This is the time to come closer, not drift apart.
Tragedies do not recognize borders. They do not distinguish nationality, language, or religion — they only wound humanity. Rejoicing over accidents is against every moral and spiritual value. When a father, a son, or a husband is lost, the cries sound the same — whether in Pakistan, India, or Afghanistan.
On 11 March 2020, the serene forests of Shakarparian in Islamabad witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy. A Pakistan Air Force F-16, rehearsing for the 23rd March flypast, crashed during an aerobatic loop, and Wing Commander Nauman Akram embraced martyrdom. The inquiry confirmed that he could have saved his own life by ejecting, but he chose instead to protect civilians on the ground — a sacrifice that made him a true national hero. His two young children have carried the weight of this loss in ways that words cannot fully express.
Likewise, on 21 November 2025, during the Dubai Air Show, an Indian Air Force Tejas aircraft crashed, taking the life of Wing Commander Nimansh Syal — a husband, a father of a young daughter, and a brave officer. Another home fell silent, this time across the border.
These incidents remind us that grief speaks the same language everywhere. Borders divide land, not hearts. India, Afghanistan, Iran, China — they are all our neighbors. Enmity is not destiny; it is a choice. And so is friendship.
To build true peace, we must create more opportunities for people-to-people contact — youth exchanges, joint sports events, cultural festivals, academic collaborations, and social initiatives. Sports, culture, education, and human connection are the most powerful tools to replace fear with trust, and distance with understanding.
When the youth of our region meet on a sports field, a debate stage, or a cultural platform, they discover something powerful:
We are far more similar than different.
This is not merely idealism — it is a necessity for the future of our region, and for the generations that will inherit it.
