In the heart of Gaza, where dreams are buried under rubble and playgrounds have turned into graveyards, two tragic losses have shaken the conscience of the global sporting community.
First, Ammar Hamayel — a young Muaythai athlete, a peace ambassador, and a beacon of hope for youth — killed in the violence that has become daily life in Palestine. Then, Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as the Palestinian Pele, a football legend whose skill and spirit inspired generations, gunned down while simply trying to collect aid for his family.
When athletes — symbols of unity, discipline, and peace — become the targets of bombs and bullets, sport cannot stand on the sidelines.
IFMA Takes a Stand
In response to Ammar Hamayel’s death, the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) has taken a courageous and morally principled decision:
No Israeli flags, anthems, or national symbols will be permitted at any IFMA event.
Israeli athletes may compete only as Neutral Individual Athletes (AIN), just like competitors from Russia and Belarus.
No IFMA events will be hosted in Israel until further notice.
This is not an attack on athletes — IFMA has been clear that Israeli sportspeople remain valued members of the Muaythai family. It is a peaceful but firm protest against a state whose actions have claimed the lives of children, sports ambassadors, and entire families.
FIFA, IOC — Where Is Your Courage?
IFMA’s stance should be a wake-up call for the entire sporting world. When Russia invaded Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee and FIFA acted swiftly, imposing bans and suspensions in defense of the principles of peace and human dignity.
So why the double standard?
Is the blood of Palestinian children less valuable than that of Ukrainians?
Is the Olympic Truce — meant to halt hostilities during the Games — only valid for select conflicts?
If a young Muaythai peace ambassador can be killed, and a national football icon like the Palestinian Pele can be assassinated while seeking food for his family, what more evidence do we need that Israel has crossed every red line of human morality?
FIFA must immediately suspend Israel from all football activities worldwide, just as apartheid South Africa was banned for decades until it dismantled its racist system. The IOC and all international sports bodies must follow suit — not as a political move, but as a moral obligation.
Sport’s Moral Duty
Sport is not just about competition. It is a language of unity, an arena where differences fade and humanity comes first. Allowing a state to participate freely while it kills athletes, bombs stadiums, and targets children is a betrayal of that language.
I salute Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of IFMA, for honoring Ammar Hamayel’s memory with decisive action, not empty words:
> “We honour his memory not with silence, but with a stand for justice.”
The world of sport must echo that stand — from FIFA to the IOC, from tennis courts to athletics tracks.
Ban genocide. Ban occupation. Ban Israel from global sport.
Just as the world united against apartheid in South Africa, it must now unite for Palestine.

روس کی طرح اسرائیل پر پابندی کا مطالبہ زور پکڑ گیا۔

IFMA کا جرات مندانہ فیصلہ — کھیل کے میدان سے امن و انصاف کا پیغام
اس دنیا میں جہاں ظلم اور جارحیت کا شکار سب سے زیادہ بچے اور معصوم شہری ہو رہے ہیں، خاموشی مجرمانہ بن چکی ہے۔ بین الاقوامی موئے تھائی فیڈریشن (IFMA) نے فلسطینی امن کے سفیر اور نوجوان کھلاڑی عمار حمیّل کی شہادت کے بعد اسرائیلی قومی علامات پر فوری پابندی عائد کر کے دنیا کو ایک اخلاقی پیغام دیا ہے۔
یہ صرف ایک پالیسی تبدیلی نہیں، بلکہ ایک ضمیر کی پکار ہے۔ جب ایک ایسا بچہ جو کھیل کے ذریعے امن کا پیغام دے رہا ہو، قتل کر دیا جائے، تو عالمی اسپورٹس برادری کی خاموشی جرم بن جاتی ہے۔
IFMA نے واضح کیا ہے کہ آئندہ سے کسی بھی IFMA ایونٹ میں اسرائیلی پرچم، قومی ترانہ یا کوئی بھی قومی علامت قابل قبول نہیں ہوگی۔ اسرائیلی کھلاڑی صرف نیوٹرل انفرادی کھلاڑی (AIN) کی حیثیت سے شرکت کر سکیں گے، جیسے کہ روس اور بیلا روس کے کھلاڑیوں کے ساتھ ہو رہا ہے۔ ساتھ ہی، کوئی بھی IFMA ایونٹ اسرائیل میں منعقد نہیں ہوگا۔
یہ فیصلہ کھلاڑیوں کے خلاف نہیں بلکہ اس ظالمانہ ریاستی نظام کے خلاف ہے جو بچوں، خواتین اور معصوم شہریوں کی جان لے رہا ہے۔ یہ ایک پرامن مگر باعزت احتجاج ہے، اس بات کے خلاف کہ کھیل کی عالمی اقدار کو روند کر نسل کشی کی جائے۔
فلسطینی پیلے کی شہادت — کھیل کا ایک اور زخم
یہ سانحہ صرف موئے تھائی تک محدود نہیں۔ دنیا کے سب سے مقبول کھیل فٹبال میں بھی غزہ کے لوگوں کا درد گونج رہا ہے۔ فلسطینی فٹبال لیجنڈ، سلیمان العبید، جنہیں محبت سے "فلسطینی پیلے" کہا جاتا تھا، حال ہی میں اسرائیلی حملے میں اس وقت شہید کر دیے گئے جب وہ امداد لینے جا رہے تھے۔
یہ شخص صرف ایک کھلاڑی نہیں تھا، بلکہ فلسطینی عوام کے حوصلے اور فٹبال کے جذبے کا استعارہ تھا۔ اس کی موت FIFA کے ضمیر پر ایک سوالیہ نشان ہے:
کیا کھیل کے عالمی ادارے ظالم ریاست کے ساتھ تعلقات جاری رکھیں گے جبکہ وہ کھیل کے ہیروز کو بھی مار رہی ہے؟
دوہرا معیار ختم کرو — اسرائیل پر مکمل پابندی لگاؤ
غزہ میں جاری قتل عام، جہاں معصوم بچوں کی لاشیں ملبے تلے دبی ہوئی ہیں، ہسپتال ملبہ بن چکے ہیں، بستیاں مٹا دی گئی ہیں اور کھیلوں کے لیجنڈز بھی محفوظ نہیں، دنیا کے ضمیر کو جھنجھوڑنے کے لیے کافی ہے۔
اگر عالمی اولمپک کمیٹی (IOC) روس پر یوکرین جنگ کے باعث پابندیاں لگا سکتی ہے، تو اسرائیل کے خلاف بھی وہی معیار اپنایا جائے۔
اسی طرح، FIFA کو چاہیے کہ اسرائیل کو تمام فٹبال سرگرمیوں سے مکمل طور پر معطل کرے، جیسا کہ اس نے ماضی میں جنوبی افریقہ کے نسلی امتیاز کے دور میں کیا تھا۔
کیا فلسطینی بچوں اور کھلاڑیوں کا خون یوکرینی یا یورپی کھلاڑیوں سے کم قیمتی ہے؟
کیا اولمپک ٹرُوس اور اسپورٹس کی اخلاقیات صرف مخصوص خطوں کے لیے ہیں؟
یہ دوہرا معیار اب ناقابلِ قبول ہے۔
سلام IFMA — وقت ہے دنیا آپ کا ساتھ دے
IFMA کے صدر ڈاکٹر سکچئے تپسووان کی قیادت اور جرات کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کرتا ہوں، جنہوں نے کہا:
“ہم عمار کی یاد کو خاموشی سے نہیں، بلکہ انصاف کے ساتھ زندہ رکھیں گے۔”
آج یہ کھیلوں کی دنیا کی ذمہ داری ہے کہ وہ صرف تالیوں سے نہیں، بلکہ عملی اقدامات سے مظلوموں کا ساتھ دے۔
نسل کشی کو روکو۔ قبضے کو روکو۔ کھیلوں کو اسرائیلی ظلم سے پاک کرو۔
دنیا نے ایک بار نسل پرست جنوبی افریقہ کے خلاف کھڑے ہو کر تاریخ رقم کی۔ اب وقت ہے کہ ہم سب فلسطین کے لیے کھڑے ہوں۔
